| Beautiful Hair How to achieve and maintain a healthy head of beautiful hair.
Three main things are needed for a good-looking head of hair -- good health, the right attention to cleanliness, and caution when using cosmetic treatments.
1. Adequate Diet
Hair growth depends on an adequate diet. A widespread diet problem which causes loss of hair is iron deficiency Anaemia. The cause is too little iron in blood, brought on by a diet containing too little meat, eggs, cereals or peas and beans. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also needed to provide vitamin C, which enables the body to absorb iron.
2. Cutting the hair
Although cutting the hair is not essential to its well-being, it is easier to keep the scalp clean if the hair is kept reasonably short. Regular cutting does not make the hair grow strong or faster.
3. How hair can be damaged
Although scalp hair is hardy, and can withstand a lot of abuse, it can be damaged by too much or inexpertly applied perming, dyeing, bleaching and massage. The amount of beautying the hair can take varies from person to person. Occasionally the scalp is allergic to the dye and becomes inflamed and swollen. To prevent this occuring, the dye should be tested by applying it to a small area on the arm. If a patch of inflammation has developed, the dye must not be used on the hair.
Most people who bleach their hair do so with hydrogen peroxide. If the peroxide is repeatedly applied, it may make the hair brittle. If this happens the hair may turn rough, develop split ends, or become thinned or shortened. |

| Haircare Tips n Tricks
For best long hair styles, work with your hair's natural texture. If working against the natural texture, ensure that your hair is styled correctly
Long Hair
For best long hair styles, work with your hair's natural texture. If working against the natural texture, ensure that your hair is styled correctly (right styling technique, tools and products). Even though hair can be long, it still must have a strong cut & color.
Short Hair
Don't shampoo your short style too much and use products that enhance your cut, but don't take over your style. Ensure that your hair is cut on a regular basis (4-6 weeks) to keep your style in check.
Dry Hair
For dry hair always, use a conditioning treatment at least once a week. For an in-salon treatment, I recommend Aveda Elixir Remedy and for at home maintenance, I recommend Sap Moss Nourishing Concentrate. At home, always use a regular conditioner, plus a conditioning treatment.
Curly Hair
Shampoo curly hair only once a week but rinse daily and use Aveda Elixir leave-in conditioner as a styling product. Avoid any products that contain alcohol, as these dry your hair out and create much dreaded frizz.
Colored Hair
Ensure that any colour you choose compliments your skin tone & eye color. Also take into account your current style - ensure that the color compliments your style without overtaking it! I always think that color has to also suit the personal attitude and lifestyle of the client.
Fringes
Very fashionable at the moment! A fringe must suit your face shape and not just reflect the current fashion trends. Always have a professional stylist trim your fringe (offered as a complimentary maintenance service at Synergy Hair Melbourne) and NEVER use the kitchen scissors!
Blow-drying Hair Straight
Always use a protective product when styling your hair straight. Good tools are essential - use a blow-dryer with a strong air flow, not just a very hot one. If blow-drying hair straight regularly, use a treatment, weekly, to prevent your hair from drying out and frazzled ends. |

| Saving Money on Haircare
Here are some tips that could help you stretch your beauty budget.
1. Go to a hair dresser that has a salon built onto her house. Her prices should be very reasonable. Check the price of a color, haircut, deep conditioning and a blow dry. The average price for this service is about Rps.1500.
2. Choose a style that lasts a while between cuttings and doesn't require a lot of styling products.
3. Choose hairstyles to work with rather than against your hair type.
4. To make my shampoo go further, keep an empty bottle in the shower next to the current bottle of shampoo you are using. When you are ready to lather up, squirt a SMALL amount of shampoo into the empty bottle and then add a 'shot' of water and shake it lightly. This distributes the shampoo over your hair more evenly, while using less. It also lathers up much faster than doing it the conventional way.
5. Collect complimentary and sample bottles and packages of hair care products and send them along when going on short trips. This is especially good for kids who tend to forget to bring things home. 6. To cut down on the cost of hair care, cut our own. Consider purchasing the book, 'Cutting Your Family's Hair' by Gloria Handel. The directions and illustrations are excellent. She also gives recipes for hair care products you can make at home.
7. Find a beauty school or college in your area. For simple perms and cuts, they are just fine and much less expensive then the traditional salon.
8. Give up perms, hair-coloring and highlighting. Let your hair grow to below your shoulders and get a friend to trim it straight across every few months. Trim your own bangs, if you have them. Long hair can be worn down, in a ponytail, in a braid, in a French braid, or up in a bun. It doesn't have to be blown dry or curled or set. And without chemicals, coloring, and heat, it can repair itself and look shiny and healthy. Beautiful! Easy! Feminine! Cheap!
9. Instead of using the expensive detangler products from the store, make a homemade version using 1 part conditioner to 10 parts water. Then put it into a recycled pump hair spray bottle. It works wonderfully.
10. Most hair does not benefit from daily washing with shampoo or from being washed twice in one bathing as some shampoo manufacturers suggest. Actually, doing these things can dry out your hair and scalp and make them prone to other problems. Find the least expensive shampoo that works for your hair, and use it only as often and in the quantity that is necessary to keep your hair healthy and manageable. |

| Hair Care 101 When you go to the drugstore and look down the hair care aisle, if you're like most of us, you're overwhelmed by the number of choices. One product claims to give your hair volume, another says it cures split ends, a third touts its antifrizz formula. It goes on and on. How do you decide which one is right? The key to understanding what will work for you is to determine what type of hair you have. If you're of European descent, your hair will fall into one of three broad categories: fine and thin, medium or coarse and thick. Asian hair is the thickest of all, and African Americans have a completely different hair type. While a Caucasian hair is oval and an Asian hair rounder, an African hair alternates thick and thin. This is what makes it curly, but it's also what makes it fragile and prone to breakage (at the thin points). African hair can be fine, medium or coarse, but most falls into the third category.
In addition, some hair is more porous and will quickly soak up whatever you put on it, as well as the humidity in the air. If your hair gets frizzy on muggy days and flat on very dry ones, it's probably porous. Coarse hair is often porous, as is any hair that has been permed, straightened, permanently colored or otherwise damaged. |
